Welcome to the Oxford International Residency Academy! As the Director of International Programs, I appreciate your interest in OIRA and sincerely look forward to having you as part of the Oxford Wildcat family!
I began my own career in America during my undergraduate years at Saginaw Valley State University (in Michigan) where I majored in English literature and received certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). While at Saginaw, I was the first peer international student advisor to offer cultural mentoring and academic consulting to other international students from China. I also taught English as a second language and provided TOEFL instructions to the students at the university.
My education and training also enabled me to work extensively in international student recruiting, exchange program coordination, TESOL and residential programs. In addition to these experiences, I am also skilled in conference interpretation and public speaking. From 2008 to 2012, I served as the interpreter for the Gerstacker Fellows during their educational visits to China. Meanwhile, I was actively involved in collegiate forensics and took 1stplace twice in the 2008 and 2009 SIMS Public Speaking Competition. It is my purpose to represent and service the OIRA students with my communication skills, supporting them into becoming active members of the Oxford community.
Most recently, I completed my graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn), where my area of focus was in international educational development. While there, I led Penn’s Long-term Planning Committee under the International Student Advisory Board, which advocated for a fostering of community and cross-cultural communications across the institution. In the summer of 2013, I interned at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, where I collaborated with colleagues of diverse nationalities and backgrounds on researching health education for disadvantaged youths.
